About

On the last Thursday of every month we have an acoustic  show in the Fanya Baron Library at Jura Books.

Bring a piece of wood with strings, a tube with holes, your humble vocal chords or just your ears to listen. There’ll be a headline performer, but aside from that, the night is open to whoever turns up. If we get enough people then we may even spread downstairs for some spoken word, poetry or just another performance space.

At every event vegetarian food and refreshments are available. Donations are appreciated to pay Jura’s mortgage and other bills.

Want to play?

As previously stated, the night is open to whoever is in attendance, so if you’d like to play a song, yell a poem, read a story or have some other sort of performance that doesn’t require any electricity to be powered, then all you have to do is come along and whenever there’s a gap in performances, speak up and go for it.

You can also let us know beforehand if you plan on coming and playing so we can advertise that you’re going to be performing. Just send us an email at juracoustic[at]gmail[dot]com and tell us all about it.

We don’t usually pay people for performing at the events so we can put whatever money we manage to make through donations toward paying off the Jura mortgage (which currently has about $10 000 to go) but if you do have costs that need covering (for example, if you’re a touring artist from out of Sydney) then we can negotiate something beforehand or on the night.

Want to get involved?

Currently the events are organised by only three of us, and sometimes we don’t have the time to organise things the best they could be. Every month we need to book people to play, organise food, cook food, advertise the event, set up on the night and clean up afterwards. If you’d like to help out even if its something small like making a flyer design or bringing a pumpkin along on the night then it would be really appreciated so do it – and get in touch.
